A Broadway Success All The Way!

The Lion King tickets sold out for the very first time in July 1997, when the show was premiered at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, MN. Needless to say, it was an instant hit with audience from all age groups! And it is still going strong in theaters across the nation, even after 10 long years! People aged 30 or 40, or even grandparents, come and watch the show, forgetting that they are too elderly for fairy tales now, and later leave the theaters with the same child-like wonder in their eyes as their children and grandchildren! Theatrical Feast!

Julie Taymor has managed to create a spectacular visual feast out of Disney’s golden animation! The rolling landscapes of the Savannahs, the rich variety of animals, birds and insects brought to life with human acting, masks, shadows and puppets, and the swirling Pride Rock, where we first see Mufasa and then Scar, standing in the exact same place but with totally different emotions on their faces! And these are just a few of the special effects that have helped to dramatize the cartoon version of the story on stage!

Lion King Musical Tickets for a Must-see Show on Broadway!

You must get your Lion King Musical tickets right now, if you haven’t already seen this Disney’s favorite animated movie magically transformed into a vibrant live stage show! Something really wonderful and extraordinary happened to The Lion King on its way from an animated Cartoon Film for the Kids to a Broadway Musical! Although its storyline remained intact in the adaptation, yet it came forward as a totally original piece of theater art, with its sophisticated combination of live acting, masks, puppetry, singing, dancing, and Disney’s typical stand-up comedy!

How Did This Happen?

The multi-talented Julie Taymor is credited for creating the unmatched beauty and magic of the Lion King Musical. She has worked in the production team of this show in several capacities – as a director, as a puppet-mask and costume designer (along with Michael Curry), and also as a music and lyric contributor (along with Elton John, Tim Rice, Hans Zimmer, and Lebo M)! She has touched fantastic new heights in theater production technology with this Musical! No amount of text reviews can do any justice to the brilliance she has shown. You will have to get your own Lion King Musical tickets and watch the show for yourself!

Julie Taymor has converted all the cartoon characters into masks and gigantic puppets. And the uniquely bizarre thing about these characters is the way she has presented them! The faces of actors wearing these masks are completely visible! The explanation she gives is that masks are inherently fixed in nature, whereas the original characters of Disney are vibrant with expressions! As such, no amount of skill in mask-making could capture all the varied expressions of each character! Hence she came up with this original concept of letting the actors wear the mask above their heads, so that their faces conveyed the required expressions while the masks identified the characters!

The Puppets

Even in puppetry, the actors managing the puppets are visible to the audience! And this creates a dual phenomenon on stage – the audience keeps switching between watching the puppets in action and the puppeteers in action! Infact, viewers have been so captivated by this dual performance alone that they are buying Lion King Musical tickets repeatedly and going to watch the show again and again!

As a matter of fact, more than 100 puppets have been used in the Lion King Musical show – ranging from rod puppets to thousands-of-years-old shadow puppets to full-sized Bunraku puppets! Some say it took 37,000 hours to build these puppets, complete with their intricate costumes! These puppets have represented 25 different kinds of wildlife specimens, including birds, animals, fish and insects! The largest puppets in the show are the 26-foot flying giraffes in the song “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”, and the smallest one is the 5-inch trick mouse that sits at the end of Scar’s cane!

When to purchase tickets for The Lion King musical?

I am traveling to London in March next year, and plan to see The Lion King musical at the Lyceum theatre. Do the tickets sell out fast? Should I buy them now or can I wait untill later? I need three tickets, Orchestra seating.

Get your tickets early, especially since you want orchestra seats. If you have a particular day you want to see the show and want to sit in a particular place, I wouldn’t wait until the last minute to get tickets – you might wind up dissapointed.

Cheers! (and enjoy the show)
